the story and inspiration:
human beings are more than 99.9 percent alike – any geneticist would tell you that. but in that fraction
of a percentage, there exist vast differences in eye color, skin color, hair color, and yes, hair
texture. textured hair – hair that is kinky, curly or wavy – is prone to being dry, brittle and frizzy. as a
result, it expands and separates, diminishing its natural curl pattern, and making it difficult to tame
and style. approximately 60 percent of the world’s population has textured hair, yet an alarming
number of people – professionals as well as consumers – lack the knowledge and tools to enhance
its natural beauty.
desperate for answers, many people with textured hair have had to form a community of sorts
– both on and offline – built around experimentation with a myriad of products and concoctions to
enhance their natural texture. this is not always an exercise in simplicity, nor are the end results
always to their liking. some have given up the fight entirely, abandoning working with their natural texture and turning to chemical or thermal manipulation out of despair rather than choice.
two aisles, one world. typically, products geared to the kinkiest of textured hair have been relegated
to their own special section in the drugstore aisle and can be boiled down to two types: those that
chemically alter the hair and those that try to tame it with greasy or waxy ingredients. and the products
marketed to non-kinky curly hair don't fare much better; many of them cause extreme dehydration.
these products reflect a one-dimensional approach to kinky, curly and wavy hair, and none of
them address the multiple textures of an ethnically diverse world.
our hair care and styling solutions do address the world's complete texture spectrum. hair rules is a collection of products that celebrates the unique differences and
similarities of textured hair with an integrated collection of ultra-hydrating cleansers, conditioners
and styling aids, geared to the special needs of kinky, curly and wavy hair.
